The challenge
Autotype (now MacDermid) spearheads technological advances in the precision coating of films. From the early days of photography through to innovations in touch screen technology it continues as a forerunner. Few companies can boast such longevity as innovators. Autotype wanted to mark its achievement of 137 years of enterprise and vision, preserving the history of the company, as it became part of MacDermid.
The results
Bullnose created a 48-page book entitled ‘Celebration of Innovation’. It was designed to reflect the origins of Autotype from 1868 to its current stature as a 21st Century innovator. The design grid had to be flexible enough to accommodate styling from the ornate Victorian era through to the high-tech environment of the 21st century.

The greatest challenge was the timescale – from brief, initial designs and copywriting to delivery in just seven weeks – in time for the official presentation to the company of its Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
